Puerto Rico post-adoption support
Below are post-adoption support services available to families who live in Puerto Rico. Services may not be available in all areas and/or may be dependent upon the circumstances of the placement. Please check with your post-adoption services provider about the availability of specific post-adoption or guardianship support services for your family. Post-adoption/guardianship support services
In Puerto Rico, adoptive families have access to the following services through a post-adoption support program:
- Referral to services
- Case management: This is provided by the social worker that was assigned the case prior to the adoption.
- Educational support
- Crisis intervention
Who is eligible for these services?
- Families who have adopted from the territory’s foster care system
- Families who have guardianship of a child from the territory’s foster care system
Eligible families remain eligible until the child reaches the age of 21.
Who provides these services?
The Department of Children and Family Services of Puerto Rico provides post-adoption and permanency support to families living in the territory.
