About Serenity
Serenity is a 14-year-old African American female who enjoys school, learning, and new experiences. Although she did not receive a traditional education before entering care, she taught herself to read and presents as very articulate. Serenity is self-aware, open, and willing to share her thoughts and feelings. She enjoys going to the beach and participating in outings, and while she can be shy or timid when first meeting someone, she is able to make friends easily.
Serenity is the second eldest of five children and has worked through challenges related to the idea of adoption. She would benefit from prospective adoptive parent(s) who are willing to participate in adoption-competent therapy and/or adoptive family support groups to better understand the unique dynamics of adoption. Serenity would also need a trauma-informed family that can provide patience, understanding, consistency, and ongoing therapeutic support as she continues to grow and build trust.
On July 1, 2024, Florida enacted a new law (often referred to as the Permanency for Children law) that limits public access to images of children in the state’s foster care system, particularly those up for adoption. The state wants to be cautious as to who can see and potentially have access to youth’s info. Only approved, background-checked adoptive families can view photos.
