About James
Give him a keyboard, a joystick, a touchscreen, or any other control device and James can show you how to move around in a video game. He knows all the ins, outs, ups, downs, and may even be able to find the elusive “Easter eggs” hidden in some games. You could say he’s a video game master, and it’s no wonder. After all, some of the skills it takes to succeed in the game world are some of his strengths in real life. James is really outgoing which helps him interact with other players online and with the people he encounters every day. He’s also described as perceptive, which helps him be a team player and empathize with others. Lastly, James’ kindness keeps him grounded and makes him a positive person no matter how you meet him. “James is a very sweet, thoughtful boy,” says an adult who knows him well. “He wants to always feel included and accepted as he tries very hard to treat others as he wants to be treated.”
Though playing games or spending time on his tablet are definitely favorite activities for James, he has lots of other interests. Don’t ask him if he likes cats or dogs better, because he loves them both. He lists orange as his favorite color and pizza or McDonald’s as his favorite foods. He looks forward to spending holidays with a forever family and says he would enjoy “a big family dinner, spending time with family, playing games, and exchanging gifts.” He also has future dreams about going on vacations with a forever family, simply spending quality time together, and hopefully having a family that will support his goal of trying karate or another martial art. James has two main wishes in life, one that is on the serious side and one that’s filled with his unique sense of humor: “have a forever family and never get full from eating pizza!” Both are wishes that would make James happy, and he wishes the same for everyone else. When asked what he wants potential families to know about him, James said “I have a big heart and I want everyone around me to be happy.”
James needs experienced parents that are trauma informed and will be patient with him. As many kids do, James struggles when he doesn’t get his way so his future parents will need to help redirect him and lovingly explain circumstances to him. In school, James loves math class the most but finds other aspects to be a challenge. He would benefit from parents that support his academic and social efforts, advocate for him, and cheer for his successes. Staying in touch with his sisters is really important to James. In fact, when asked what he is most proud of, he answered “my sisters.” His future family will need to support regular, ongoing visits with his siblings.
