About Starletta
Starletta, who goes by Star, certainly knows how to shine. She is an athlete and has participated in volleyball in the past, and she wants to play organized basketball as well. She also enjoys skating. In her free time, she likes to go to the movies, listen to music and talk on the phone to her friends. Still, she likes spending time with her friends in person even more than being on the phone. If you ask Star her favorite foods, she says chicken alfredo and ramen, but don’t pass her certain pasta and seafood dishes. “She does not like spaghetti or fish,” says one of Star’s close adults.
“Star is sweet, smart and playful,” says one of the adults close to her. “She is a hard worker and a problem solver. Star is caring, independent, mentally strong and resilient.” Like most teens, Star thrives when given the chance to be independent. She would benefit from a parent or parents who help her make good choices as she stretches her wings. In school, Star works hard and has lots of friends, but would benefit from parents who help her learn how to make good student citizenship choices.
Star would do well in a one- or two-parent household with or without other children. Her family must make sure Star receives the services that will benefit her success. She is very protective of her brother and, while not being placed together, she will need to maintain contact with him. One of her close adults adds, “An adoptive family for Star should be willing to maintain significant relationships and should continue to foster a positive cultural identity.”
