About Zariah
Bright and clever with a strong independent streak, Zariah is a teen who is going places! If you are lucky enough to welcome Zariah in your life, you'll be going places, too. As an aspiring auto mechanic, she'd love to help keep your car in tip-top shape. In fact, she is hoping to join some classes to help her develop her mechanic skills. She isn't just mechanically-minded, Zariah is athletic too, and has participated in sports in the past. Currently, however, she is considering joining a more free-form youth club instead of organized sports. She has a good sense of humor and loves to laugh, but can be assertive when the situation calls for it. This driven young lady lists dogs and cats as her favorite animals, blue and purple as her favorite colors and Mexican, seafood and Chick-fil-A as her favorite foods. Zariah says gym and math are her favorite subjects in school, and Christmas is among her favorite holidays because she enjoys spending special time with family and friends. If she had three wishes, Zariah would want to “have money, meet famous people, and have a car,” she says. Because she loves having fun, she hopes for a family who enjoys the same. Some of the things Zariah wants to do with her new family include traveling, swimming, going to the park, and watching movies.
“Zariah is a very intelligent and clever young girl,” says one of her close adults. “She is very caring and loves to help others. Zariah has a big heart and is very kind to others. Zariah is very active and athletic as well. She loves helping and just having fun.” Zariah holds her own academically, but would benefit from parents who support her academic achievements. Zariah is wonderfully able to stand up for herself in all situations and would shine socially if she had parents who helped her balance her self-advocacy skill with friendship skills.
Zariah's future family must be understanding and supportive of conflicting feelings she may have about being in a new family. Zariah would feel most comfortable in an urban environment and living somewhere where others - if not in her home, then at least in the community - mirror her racial identity. She would benefit from being in a forever family with two parents who are experienced and trauma informed. Zariah excels when her environment is structured and predictable, so parents who set clear expectations and maintain a routine would be beneficial. Zariah’s new family need to be fierce advocates for the services that will help her flourish. Zariah can be placed with other children, and she’d love to have a younger sibling. She loves animals and would be happy if her new home had pets. Finally, her family must be open to letting Zariah maintain her sibling relationships.
