With Steve on active duty in the military, the Browns faced additional hurdles in their path to adopting from foster care, but they persevered – and recently added 3-year-old Destiny to their family.
After becoming inspired to adopt during a church mission trip in Mexico helping children whose parents were in prison, Paige and Travis Dickey of Rincon, Georgia, turned to AdoptUSKids. It was through AdoptUSKids' free photolisting of waiting children that the Dickey's found their 15-year-old daughter Brittany.
For Traci Lucien, 51, of Laurel, Maryland, the bond formed with her daughter before they ever met. Lucien first laid eyes on her daughter, Talynn, 9, through AdoptUSKids’ national photolisting of children in foster care available for adoption. At the time, Talynn was living in a foster home in another state. They talked on the phone, exchanged letters, but Lucien knew she had to meet this child.
When Barry Farmer, 25, of Richmond, Virginia, first considered fostering, he didn't think beyond providing a temporary, loving home to a child in need. Now, a single dad of a 10-year-old boy he adopted through foster care, Farmer is looking to adopt as many as two more children.
