I'd like to introduce you to Austin, who has one wish: "to be adopted by a family that wants me." Austin is a meat and potato kind of guy, but says he will eat pretty much anything. Austin has a fascination with anything car related and says that he would like to be a mechanic when he grows up.
During the summer, Austin likes to swim in the pool and go tubing at the lake. He has a love of video games and enjoys playing any racing game on his PlayStation2. Austin also enjoys listening to music and assembling Lego projects.
Austin is in 9th grade and earns average grades. He has the support of an Individualized Education Plan and a paraprofessional at school. His foster family says that Austin has become very independent within the last four years and has made great strides in his daily tasks. Austin receives on going therapy services.
It is recommended that these services continue for Austin after adoptive placement and finalization.
If given the choice, Austin would choose to spend time on his own, rather than play with other children or be in the company of others. Austin tends to struggle with stimulation associated with extracurricular activities and social events, as he becomes anxious. His providers continue to work together to provide the best support possible to Austin. An adoptive family should be open to input and suggestions from Austin's team.
Austin wants his forever family to know that he likes to be appreciated. People close to Austin find his quirky personality his most endearing trait. They state that he is loving and considerate of other people. He notices the "little things" in others. Austin is described as a "caring soul" who is able to take things as they come. An ideal adoptive family for Austin is one that can provide stability and consistency for him, as he struggles with the concepts of "time" and "change" within his day-to-day living. Austin says his adoptive family can be a single-parent or two-parent home. The connection between Austin and his current foster family should also be maintained, as the foster family could be a resource to the adoptive family for information, assistance, and respite care.
