How to Foster and Adopt: Kansas

Licensing Requirements for Foster or Adoption

All families interested in fostering or adopting will need to complete an approval process that includes standard background checks; completion of a 30-hour training course, PS-MAPP; and a homestudy. Family wishing to foster must also be licensed through the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Visit the Adopt Kansas Kids website or call 1-877-457-5430.

Does it Cost to Foster or Adopt?

There are typically little or no costs associated with becoming a foster or adoptive family. Foster families are provided with a modest monthly stipend to provide for the daily needs of the child. Medical care and other expenses are covered by the State. For families adopting, subsidy and financial aid programs (such as provisions for medical care) may be available to assist with the costs of caring for a child.

Parent Support Groups

Agencies sponsoring foster and adoptive homes offer support groups for resource families, parents, grandparents, and other caregivers raising children. These support groups are designed to connect families with the support and resources they need to succeed. For more information about support groups, please call 1-877-457-5430.
