Sandra and Pa'Cola live in the same foster home and depend on one another in many ways. Both girls have done so well in counseling that their visits are being reduced.
Sandra is a happy, sweet, and friendly girl with a beautiful smile. She has a pleasant personality and a fun sense of humor. Sandra is curious and inquisitive and loves to talk. She enjoys jumping rope, and playing basketball and board games. Sandra is quite an animal lover and says her favorites are dolphins, cheetahs, and monkeys. She also loves to dance, sing, read, and watch TV. Sandra loves to draw and would greatly benefit from some formal classes. Sandra and Pa'Cola share a bedroom in the same foster home and enjoy trading clothes. She attends regular classes at school where an individual education plan allows her the opportunity to be successful through a variety of methods including modified assignments, extended time, study guides and others. According to her teacher, Sandra has blossomed into a wonderful young lady. She is a big help in the classroom and is respected by her peers. Sandra is learning to stand up for herself and is working on building self-esteem. It is important for her to receive recognition and positive feedback for her efforts and accomplishments. Sandra is improving in personal care responsibilities and working on household responsibilities. She has no physical limitations, although she uses an inhaler fifteen minutes before exercise.
Pa'Cola is a sweet and polite girl with a terrific sense of humor. She is dramatic, funny, and has great leadership qualities. Pa'Cola is a very social girl with lots of friends. She likes listening to music and performing, whether it's dancing, acting, or singing. She wants to be a professional actor and hopes to be able to attend a School of the Arts. Pa'Cola is an athletic girl who enjoys a variety of sports, from volleyball to roller skating. She participates in the LINKS program to help prepare her for adulthood and she has a new mentor who will help enhance her community and social experiences. Pa'Cola attends regular classes at school where she receives extra resource assistance provides if she requests it. While she struggles with Math, her English teacher recommended that Pa’Cola take Honors English. Through counseling Pa'Cola is working on building her self-esteem and taking positive steps to change the course of her life and she has made tremendous progress.
These girls need an adoptive family that loves teenagers and can provide each one of them with quality, personal attention and time. Sandra and Pa'Cola need opportunities to build their self-esteem and to be praised for positive achievements. They need a structured home environment with clearly set boundaries and appropriate consequences. The girls will benefit from a family that models how a "normal" family interacts in a loving and considerate way. They will also need to continue some counseling as they work through their various issues. Getting to know Sandra and Pa'Cola will reveal to their adoptive parents what they need to continue their progress and positive journey to adulthood. They have another sister with whom future contact might be encouraged.
